  1. wash and drain 1 cup of toor dal (red lentils) 3 times
  2. start to boil it with 1/2 pot water on medium heat (6)
  3. add
    • 1/4 spoon turmeric
    • 1/2 spoon oil
  4. boil for 20-30 minutes until soft and add more water as needed
  5. when half soft add
    • 1 chopped tomato
    • small piece ginger
    • 3 green chillies cut in half, long ways
  6. when soft add
    • 1 spoon salt
    • coriander
  7. remove pot from hob
  8. in tempering pan with high heat (7-8), add
    • 1 spoon ghee
    • 1/4 spoon heeng (asafoetida)
    • 1/2 spoon mustard seeds
  9. when foaming and crackling, add 1-2 dry red chillies
  10. about 10s later add curry leaves
  11. add contents to main pot and cover
